Good find ;) Interesting detail I was not aware of.
Hisillicon will never reveal what the differences are for sure.

But I doubt it is the reason blocking an OS uplift. Dinobot U5 Mini is using also the SoC Hi3798CV200 according their specs:
    https://www.dinobot.de/dinobot-u5-mini/
There is even an Android 8 beta available for it! It seems more to depend on the programming skills and staff available.

Already accepted the fact that these models will stay with Android 5. Except for potential KODI replacement of ViDON it does not matter that much to me.
    See my report:
    http://en.egreatworld.com/comunity/...ic-dvd-bd-and-uhd-bd-playback-fw-1-3-0-9.537/
Including now the relevance of the Android OS version in my modest view.
Feel free to comment on it here or there.

Dinobot U5 Mini with Android 8 is running pretty well with YouTube/4K, Netflix/4K, Amazon/4K, HBO GO EU/HD but firmware is in alpha/beta stage is not for daily usage.
Android 7 firmware is stable of course is missing DRM playready so not Amazon, HBO GO EU, Dinobot U5 Mini have other advantage for witch user will buy/prefers.

Just ordered my Dinobot U5 Mini mainly to replace my VU+ UNO set top box. Potentially will merge both functionalities moving to a single box, but if that is realistic? As a start will (try) to use it for FTA Satellite reception combined with paid Dutch IPTV. Here it is off-topic beyond the Android 7/8 uplift using the same SOC.

Got it from Futeko so look there for my findings and experiences. It is off-topic here except for the proof that Android 7 will run on the SOC used by both.

The Dinobot box is based on the U5pvr its from the same makers. Same chipset as the Egreat but it is a modified Nvidia Shield image with there drivers and media player. Its had plenty of firmware updates over the last year mostly to get Enigma 2 working as a dual boot option. It runs the Android TV firmware which in my opinion is the best android to run on these type of boxes.

Ive just ordered a Zappiti 4k Mini HDR should come next week sometime se how it fairs to my A10.

    Zappity is way overpriced imo...

They are like many of these type of boxes especially when there does not seem to be a one to suit all jobs. But its not far of the price i paid for the A10 or my U5pvr.

Im still running my A10 with @E_CS custom Android TV firmware as my daily driver and dont have many problems with it, Ive managed to get about 200 4K movies so far in ISO and BDMV folder and its pritty much managed most.

Well, that is good news. I hope it is an importent upgrade that fixes some problems. Perhaps we should have a little more patience with egreat devellopers, and not shame and blame so quickly. Egreat, keep on the good work.

i am not convinced...i do believe them ok...BUT the fact that egreat still invests in Android 5 is really not understandable....dinobot is almost with android TV 8 and HIMEDIA has abondonned the old OS a very long time ago...and Egreat still has HUGE problems to put out NOUGAT...
Why doed egreat Hold on to android 5 is beyond me...

i disagree. we all bought an Android 5 device, for the features it advertised. first and foremost they should ensure that's working 100%. and if everything is working as advertised, i'm perfectly happy sticking with 5. honestly if they just fixed the VC-1 and Atmos issues, i feel i got what i paid for.

now, if some issues aren't fixable UNLESS they move to Android 7, which might be the case, then it's a different matter.

No those fixes don't depend on Android 7 for sure. The only thing is sure is that resources for FW development are limited, but this movement is far better than nothing at all. I am overall reasonable happy as it is and don't have VC1 or Atmos problems playing UHD and BD ISO's.

I am also not to bothered with Android 7 either I just want them to fix the problems that they have with Android 5 . Now What is that old saying "Learn to walk before you can run" that is what Egreat should do Get Android 5 100% working right first. I think Egreat are trying to get two systems to work as they should do and this is where the problems start to appear like the last software update where it seems to of been rushed out and had faults I would say slow down on Android 7 a bit and get Android 5 working as it should do.It is working OK for 98% of the time it is just that 2% that needs sorting

    @Woodpost @Eric The Viking

i disagree with you guys for the simple REASON that even when there was already only one OS....well egreat never managed to make it working 100% and EVERYBODY was complaning on and on and on....so if they never managed to make it 100% satisfactory for us anyway....so why KEEP wasting more time ? 2 years have passed and many bought other boxes in the meantime; so problem for problem...i choose android 7.

@Nice Monkey is right, egreat has limited ressources so they CAN'T do 2 OS !!!

I think that egreat is develloping Android 7 for their new boxes. I appreciatie that they do not forget their older boxes (yes, after 2 years my a10 is already an older box) and keep on develloping Android 5 until the firmware is stable and does what they once promised is. The moment that there will be no updates for android5 lies in the near future. Just my opinion.
