yea, thanks. I did go back and read up, along with a couple of links to tutorials for setting it up. I also grabbed the xml that was posted too. I will post the outcome after I have the chance to give it a try, which might not be until later this week.

ok, remedial question, which version of Kodi do I install, ARM 32 or ARM 64? I am guessing ARM 32, but wanted to double check. I ask because 16 is the last version that shows up in the Play Store on the player, and I wanted 17.6. Thanks!

    Arm32.
I guess you are on android 5? I have 17.6 on android 7 beta in play store.

Thanks, and yea, still on 5.1, until that DTS-HD dropout issue is resolved on Android 7 (beta). :)

well, I tried setting up Kodi, connected to Plex and using the Egreat (external) player. Epic fail. I must be doing something wrong since others have accomplished it. Then again I tried setting everything for "normal" playback through Kodi and won't even play a Plex stream. I can see in the logs on the Plex server that the "start" of the movie was requested, then there is nothing in the logs. And the logs on the Kodi side (at least the ones I see so far) are laughable. I may uninstall everything and start over.

That is what I was thinking. Just be patient and bide my time until Andriod 7 and Kodi 18 drop (thought I read somewhere that it requires A7?), then it seems like everything will be better (hopefully).

Are you using android 5 or beta Android 7?
    I haven't tested with Android 5 yet.
I didn't change anything in kodi other than installing plex plugin or emby plugin.

Does it work from the plex client if you install it?

    still on Android 5.1

I tried to setup using plexkodiconnect, which is a slightly better designed add-on, similar to the embry one (borrows a lot of code from it), it also allow s for path substitution from the Plex server to NFS paths before handing off to the player. But right now I can't get it working and am losing interest LOL.

Your issue is most likely the path substitution to NFS paths. I only got it working if it's using http. And I used the official plex plugin.
Why do you need path substitution?

100% of my content (that I play on the Egreat) is UHD. I don't have a lot of faith with it working over http or smb.

All my UHD works here using both plex and emby. Before android 7 I used samba without problems.

just an update. I tried installing the Plex plugin directly from the Vidon player, it connected to the plex server just fine but failed to play the files. I also tried Kodi with the Plex plugin/addon installed from there, same result. I even went so far as to wipe the player (forced recovery to a 1.x FW to wipe all settings and files), and still the same result. I know the Plex server works as we watch movies and TV shows (all .mkv files hosted on the Plex server) on our TV (using the Plex app on the TV). No issues at all. Only reason we don't use it for everything is that it won't/can't pass hd audio to the receiver, only up to DD+ (via ARC). I wiped it all again and am sitting on 1.3.0.3, which is the most stable for me for the content hosted on our NAS.

I made an update to 1.3.0.9 by OTA and have an Android 5 again. It doesn't work on this firmware. Playback is started by failed immediately :(
Looks like external player trick works with Android 7 only. Am I correct?

Wich firmware version do you have? Is it 2.0.1.0 beta or 1.3.0.3?

I moved back to 1.3.0.3 from 1.3.0.9. I have not tried any of the A7 betas due to the reported DTS-HD bug. But the change notes for 1.3.0.3 did say that the Egreat player was exposed for 3rd party apps to use, but I guess that doesn't include Kodi, unless you also use the wrapper, which I did not purchase.

For now I am just using the vidon player and after some tweaking it is good enough, at least until a stable A7 FW is released.

Yes, VidOn is great! But old. XBMC 13 version based, if my memory serves me right.
Do you mean XBMC Wrapper? No, I didn't use it. I put playercorefactory.xml directly to Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/userdata/ folder.

Right, from what I understand, despite what the Egreat FW changelog says, to use the Egreat player from Kodi on A5 FW you need to use the XBMC Wrapper. But to be honest I have not tried any of that, only reporting what others have posted, other than trying the playercorefactory update on A5 and having it not work for me.

And yea, Vidon is older code, but for my current purposes it fulfills my needs (more or less), again, at least until A7 is released (and Kodi 18). I just wish the vidon player had a better poster wall, like my Plex apps do, although that may be possible with a different skin, I just have not looked around yet to see.
